A male cardinal feeds his mate in Hendrie Valley's Grindstone Marsh on May 22, 2021. Cardinals are monogamous and mate for life. After the female lays her eggs the male will feed her in the nest until the hatch. For up to 50 days afterwards the pair share feeding duties of the young but the male will often continue to feed his mate during this time as well.
